Women's Clothing in 1920s
What American women were wearing in the decade of the 20s were 'short' dresses. They were meant to pull women out of their more conservative type clothing and restraints and let them breathe. They took off their corsets and chopped off all their long hair. Women were now showing off more of their bodies with strap dresses and low necklines.
As expected, some parts of the United States did not tolerate any of this change. In Utah, there a fine or imprisonment time for wearing skirts higher than three inches above the ankle. Laws were being written about the ages of which young girls could wear such clothing and the fabrics being used. Nothing transparent and no girl under the age of 14 can be caught being so revealed.
